Narrator: ティナ・マクギャリーはニューヨーク出身、東京で働く34歳のビジネスウーマン。以前大阪で働いていた外資系の会社からヘッドハンティングされ、有名なデータベース企業メガ・コーポレーションで新しいキャリアを踏み出したばかり。
彼女が働くこの会社は世界的に成功を収めているものの、企業として日本のマーケットへのアプローチを持っておらず、そして顧客とのコミュニケーションに関しても、まだ親近感のある関係性を作れていない状況。そこでティナは新しいマーケティングコミュニケーションディレクターとして雇われたのだけれど、彼女はこの難問に初日から頭を悩まされている、というわけ。
T:（on the phone） Right, I understand. So, you need community feedback asap...Okay, I'll get you some ideas by tomorrow morning. Thanks, right. Okay, bye. (...the IT department wants community feedback but we don't have a community yet! I need help. I've been putting off asking AKIKO if she's interested in working with me...but I can't put it off any longer! if she says no, she says no...)
Narrator: この物語のもう一人の主人公、寺島アキコは29歳。6年間つとめた会社を辞めて留学を決意。そして3ヶ月のとても有意義な時間を過ごして東京に戻ってきた彼女は今、やりがいのある仕事探しに奔走している。
…確かに留学をして英語は上達したし、前は引っ込みがちだった性格も、もっと自信をもって振るまえるように成長した。面接を受けた企業からいくつか内定をもらっていて、お給料も悪くない、むしろ良いくらいなのに、何だかいまいちその仕事にピンとこない感じがしている。
A: （はあ。この仕事も見込みのある業種だしお給料もいいけど、何か私にとってしっくりこない気がする。もっと私に合うものがあるんじゃないかってどこかで引っかかってて。あーあ。前の会社で一緒だったティナに相談できたらな。彼女、こういうことに関して決断するのがすごく上手だったから。でも、まだ東京に戻ってきていないかも。メールでもしてみようかな。こっちに来ている事があればランチでもできるといいんだけど。今頃、何しているんだろう。知らない番号だ。誰だろう？）もしもし？
T: It's great to hear your voice, how are you?
A: （うわー、信じられない。ティナだ）I'm doing well - I really am surprised that you called, I was just thinking about calling you!
T: Great minds think alike...well, I have an ulterior motive...
A: ...great mind（かどうかわからないけど、同じ事考えてる時って通じるんだね。ええっとulteriorって何だっけ）Ulterior...oh, you mean you have a hidden reason to call me?
T: Yup, and I really want to get together...I know it's kind of sudden, but what are you doing for lunch?
A: I think I'm having lunch with you!
T: I think you're right. Do you remember that little café near the old office?
A: Oh, I remember- what time?
T: Um, how about, 12:30...?
A: Sounds good, I'll see you there.
T: See you!
（A: Akiko, T: Tina）
Narrator: later, in the coffeeshop.
T&A: So...
T: Sorry, you go first...how've you been? You got back from your trip...
A: Almost 6 weeks ago...
T: That's right...I got your email about the trip, it sounds like you had a great time.
A: I did, I really enjoyed it...but now...
T: What's the matter?
A: Well, to be honest...
T: I mean, you must have great job offers now that you took the English course...
A: I've been doing a lot of interviews...（どの会社の面接でも、将来の見通しがある仕事だっていうのはわかるんだけど）
T: So...how are they?
A: And definitely I can go for a much higher salary, which I appreciate...（英語が話せるというのが、結構お給料にも関係するから良いはいいんだけど）
T: I hear a but in there...
A: Yes...each job sounds so interesting, and I would learn a lot and do new things, but...
T: But...
A: I don't know why, but I still don't feel that I've found the right one...（もうすぐ返事をしなきゃいけないんだけど、どうも心が決まらないんだよね ）But what about you - you're working for Mega Corporation now...?
T: Mhmm..it's my first week...and, to tell you the truth, the whole situation desperately needs a SWOT analysis...
A: SWOT...（何か聞いた事あるな…マーケティングの言葉なんだよね、頭文字が確か）Oh, I remember: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats!
T: Exactly. I'm glad you remember...because, in fact...I also remember you were very good at it!
A: I remember being so confused about how to analyse things, and then, when I understood it, it was very useful...
T: In business and in our personal lives, too...Well, I have something to ask you...don't feel pressured or anything...
A: What did you want to ask?
T: I want to bring you aboard as my Assistant Director of Marketing Communications.
A: You mean...join you at MegaCorporation?
T: Yup...
A: （すごい。メガコーポレーションでマーケティングコミュニケーションのアシスタントディレクターとして働けるなんて。何だか面白そう。それに何よりまたティナと一緒に働けるのも魅力的だし。ああ、どうしよう。でも、もう少し考えて返事をしようかな）
