IN THE PUB
(A: Akiko, P: Patrick)
A: Patrick, I can't believe it's been nearly 3 months since I came to Ireland.
(楽しい時間が過ぎるのがこんなに早いなんて、すごく久しぶりな感じがする)
P: I know – it went by really fast.
A: In Tokyo I was feeling that things were very grey. (でも、アイルランドに来て自分の気持ちがすごくカラフルになったように思うんだよね。街並の色や、パブでのおしゃべり。学校でも前向きに勉強する友達に囲まれてすごくいい刺激になったし)
P: I could see you needed a lift. So, what was your favorite experience?
A: I enjoyed learning about traditional Irish music and dancing.
P: Lovely. I think you're a natural at the dancing - you picked it up so fast!
A: Once I started to dance, it was so much fun it was hard to stop!
(A: Akiko, P: Patrick, S: Seamus, C: Cashell, N: Narrator)
S: So, what did you enjoy the most, Akiko?
P: We were just talking about it.
C: So, you're leaving tomorrow – now, what did you enjoy the most?
A: I really enjoyed meeting people – Irish people made me feel welcome everywhere - it has been lovely.
C: So, you loved the craic, did you?
A: Yes, I did! And, I am surprised to say that I loved the weather: it was so... spiritual. And I enjoyed the storytelling.
P: What about school? And what about Galway?
A: Oh, Galway was wonderful...And the pubs and the beer and just enjoying conversation... All of my classmates had great stories – so stimulating. I surprised myself, because I finished every lesson: and I enjoyed it!
S: Lovely! Remember, your new home is right here in Dublin.
A: Thank you, Seamus. (しばらくはこの旅のこと忘れられないな)
P: Well, you can come back.
A: I know. And I will. I will always come back...to Ireland.
(ON A PLANE – SHE'S GOING BACK HOME)
N: Akiko is back home in Tokyo. She is sending an email to Patrick.
A(TYPING):
Dear Patrick:
The weather is getting a little bit warmer here. Even so, I really miss being in Ireland. I told my friends how much I enjoyed it, and some of them are talking about taking a working holiday. They are starting to get excited about Ireland too.
I feel so much better about speaking English. In fact, I feel much more confident about myself than I did before my trip. And Seamus, and Cashell, and everybody I met was so warm and friendly. I appreciate your taking care of me when I was there. I really want to come back and stay even longer.
I'm not sure what I want to do next, but I do feel that everything will be alright.
Hope to see you soon,
Akiko
