N: March 17, Saint Patrick's Day is related to everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. The Saint that the day was named for, St. Patrick, was known for driving the snakes from Ireland. It is true that there are no snakes in Ireland, but, actually, there probably have never have been snakes there.
A: （うわあ、すごいたくさんの人！ みんなカラフルなコスチュームを着ていて…） Oh, this is so much fun, there are so many people!
P: It's even more crowded than it was when I was here last year. Hey, check out the marching band. Lovely, isn't it?
A: They look like they have practiced a lot – oh, that sign says...um, Delaware! They are from the U.S.
P: Yup, many people celebrate in their home country. And lots of people come to Ireland to celebrate.
A: People come from everywhere!
P: Oh. my. god, look at that Latin costume! Where'd he get that many feathers!
A: That little boy – his hair is bright green, and he looks like he's only 10 years old. I wonder if his mother knows he did that?
P: I bet that's his mother standing right beside him.
A: Oh, look at that costume – what is it?

N: When the Irish people spread throughout the world, they brought their history and celebrations. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses in Ireland close on March 17th: St. Patricks Day!
P: Well, let's see, long robe made of gold coins, 2 headed helmet, and a big staff...I have no idea, but that costume is great.
A: Oh, I love marching bands...here come the flags...those are all from the EU, I think.
P: I bet this is going to be your favorite: the garda dog unit.
A: The dogs are beautiful...
P: Here's the Canadian Mounted Police – and they ride Irish horses.
A: The horses are gorgeous.
P: And here comes more horses...
A: I have never enjoyed a parade so much...Patrick, thank you for persuading me to come to Dublin.
N: The next day.
A: （昨日のパレード、本当にすてきだったなあ）
S: Hi, Akiko. Did you enjoy the parade?
A: The parade was so much fun: people dress up so brilliantly, and there's so much excitement!
S: Are you writing to your friend?
A: I'm telling my mother that she should go to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Tokyo. （そう、東京でもセントパトリックスデイのパレードがあるんだよね。友達にも教えてあげよう）
