イギリスでは今月の１８日よりチャイルドシートの法律が新しくなりました。今までは、確か６才まで使用するのが義務だったのですが、これからは１２才、もしくは身長135cmになるまで、となりました。

報道のされ方がちょっと曖昧だったこともあり、Digitaroに簡単な記事を書いて載せました。

Department of TransportではTHINK!　Road Safetyというキャンペーンを続けており、このチャイルドシート法も、交通事故での犠牲者を減らすための運動の一環だと思われます。

ところで、Dept. of TransportによるウェブサイトにYour Questions Answeredというところがあります。９番の、Surely adult seat belt is OK for older children?という質問に対する答えにこうありました。

Adult seat belts are best for people over 150 cms (approx 5') in height and with an adult bone structure. Children need to use child seats and boosters to be safe - they put them in the right position to benefit from the adult seat belt properly.

骨についてはよく知らないのでさておき、シートベルトが一番有効なのは身長150ｃｍ以上ですか!?それでも今回の法律を１３５ｃｍ、とするにはいろいろと事情があったのだろうとは思うのですが、ちょっと厭な感じです。私だけでしょうか。
