As a child "I am David", which was the first book
that emotionally affected me. It was the story of a young boy's
escape from a gulag after the Second World War.
It's about the power of determination and hope.
I was about 7 and it made me aware of the wider world, historically and culturally,
for the first time.
In my teens, comics fanzines changed my life as they brought me in touch with
a community of educated people across Britain interested in art (and comics!).
Inspired by this I got into publishing comics fanzines and comics myself.
As an adult, I guess Guy Kawasaki's book, "Selling the Dream" changed
my life, as it was one of the reasons I decided to set up my own company in
Japan. |

The World Won't Listen by The Smiths. It's a compilation but
has nearly all of my favorite Smiths tracks on it. When I was
17 and 18 I must have listened to this album 2,000 times or more.
I played it every night usually twice or more. I didn't have
many other albums, it's true... |

in Hiroo, down the back streets that run alongside Meiji Dori
