Hello! I'm Chris Houser, a rock guitar player. In my day job, I
research mobile technology for education, and teach about computer
programming, web design, and a little English. I love modern culture,
and relax by consuming all kinds of media: blogs, podcasts, books,
music, TV, and movies. I'm also the president of the Nagoya
International PC Club (www.nipcc.org) which meets monthly to discuss
computers in English. I wish I had more time for my hobbies: creating
animation, computer programs, and web sites.
I am convinced that web-based activities are the future of education.

(Are you a morning person, or a night person? ) |
 |
 |
I'm a flexible person: Today I woke at six, but I sometimes sleep to
noon. This means I rarely get jetlag! I work best in quiet, so I often
rise early or stay up late, when everyone else is asleep. |

(What's your favorite activity on a Sunday afternoon? ) |
 |
 |
Reading books. I love reading. I own hundreds of non-fiction books,
and even more novels. I have a large library of books about computers
and language, as well as exciting mysteries and science fiction. I
read a lot of popular science, especially psychology and, recently,
evolutionary psychobiology: the study of how our minds developed,
which explains why we think the way we do. |

(If you could live your life again, you'd want to be a ... ? ) |
 |
 |
Just as I am now, of course! I love the freedom to investigate
things that interest me, and the possibility to improve the world
(just a little bit) by teaching and creating new things. |

(Describe a book you read that changed your life.) |
 |
 |
Steven Pinker's "How the Mind Works" inspired me to branch out in
my writing, proving that brilliant, dense science writing can flow as
easily as an armchair essay, infused with pop culture. |

(Name a CD you'd take with you anywhere.) |
 |
 |
"The Best of Duran Duran". I have eclectic music tastes: I like
Jazz, Techno, Classical, and especially old Hard Rock. I have 5000
songs in my iPod! But if I had to pick just one album, I'd pick Duran
Duran, because I can listen to their music in so many situations: When
I'm working, walking, doing house chores - anytime I want to get
energized.

(What are your three favorite films? ) |
 |
 |
- Blade Runner: Dark and smooth. Fantastically well put together.
- Total Recall: The best action movie ever made, yet it makes you
think. I've seen this maybe a dozen times.
- Contact: Since it's so long, it can be hard to sit through, yet I've
seen it thrice and read the book twice. It's a beautiful and brilliant
picture of the battle between science and religion, the modern battle
for meaning.

(Describe your favorite part of the city you live in. ) |
 |
 |
I'm surrounded by parks, and love to walk through them. There I
enjoy a lot of thinking, and get a little exercise. |

(What's your favorite section at eigoTown.com? ) |
 |

The blogs, of course! I also like the longer stories in "World
Diaries." I think I'd enjoy "Cross Culture" and "Online Learning" if I
were more comfortable reading Japanese. And the podcasts are
wonderful. |
